Shelby’s MKMEA Performance in Omaha

Shelby was asked by her kids’ ensemble director to participate in a regional vocal choir concert with Clinician Lynnell Joy Jenkins.  There were kids from Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, the Dakotas, and more.  There were something like 54 kids involved this year.

Shelby made homemade granola bars (that are ALWAYS fabulous), cut them in the shape of treble clefs, and gave them out during a break in rehearsals to friends participating in the choir, as well as the conductor and the pianist, and some of the parents that had gone along.2012-10-05_18-09-58_588

Lynnell was SO much fun, SO educational, and worked SO well with the kids. Their concert was truly fabulous.  She made the kids laugh (hard!), and truly exhibited her love of music throughout her time with the kids.  It is my hope that the kids will be “bitten” by the music bug, and go far with it, as a result of their time with her.  I know that the time I spent with clinicians as a young person will remain forever in MY memory!

We weren’t allowed to videotape the concert for copyright reasons, but we did order a CD of the audio portion.  It was a great evening of fun, beautiful voices, and TONS of smiles!

Shelby, all ready for the concert, waiting for the elevator…  you’ll see how COOL it was in the next photo we took on the way to the post-concert reception…

We COULDN’T ride in the elevators that you couldn’t see out of…  The kids kept pushing the button until the elevators on the south end (with the glass/windows) were available.  FUNNY!

What a goofball…DSCN4905
But she had a great time.  Next year, it’s in CHICAGO…

Trying NOT to get antsy on the drive down…  (EPIC FAIL….!)DSCN4737

A little relaxation after the reception.  Looks like Spence was really chillin’ out…  LOL! DSCN4836

This beautiful young lady, Claire, and her mom Colleen, rode home with us.  It was a blast!

Haley snagged a couple quick photos of Lynnell and Shelby before everyone left after the concert.

As you can probably tell, Haley took most of the photos with her new camera (that’s why she’s in very few of them….)  She is doing a great job of becoming acquainted with it’s functions/bells, and whistles.  She did awesome!

In other news……………!

Haley is now 17!!!!!!  Where does the time go?  (I know, I ask that a lot.  I just really haven’t gotten an answer yet!)  <3 her!  Here she is, pictured NOT SO patiently waiting for me to cut the cake.  Her very nice young sweetheart of a boyfriend is pictured center, standing to Haley’s right.  Miss Shelby couldn’t quit dipping her fingers in the frosting…!

I grabbed some cheap balloons at the store when I picked up Haley's cake. Little did I know, those were literally the CHEAPEST balloons I’ve ever purchased. Spence and Grandpa Roy had a great time inflating them, but they were exploding before we ever got them close to being full size. There were pieces of yellow balloons EVERYWHERE! It was a fun party, and Haley was spoiled, as usual…! Smile

Haley and Ashley had a great time breaking the balloons and making fun of people when they jumped at the sound they made…

We have been working on finishing up Haley’s junior year of softball.  Haley and Tavie - 2012Their team did okay this season, but I’m praying that all of them get along better next year.  Leadership among the girls is really a key item they were missing this year, and I hope that straightens itself out next year.

1348492763200We’ve been working on our new laundry room during any spare time we have had.  It’s coming along, slowly, but it is still moving forward.  At this point, we just have to lay the tile and grout, put on a sealer, and we’re ready to move our appliances in.  All that remains is placing some cupboards and countertop in there, and we’ll be DONE!  …And onto the next project…

Have a great Monday, y’all!  And HAPPY FALL!
