Thoughts for Tuesday
Well, it's not Monday, anymore, and that's good. But it's not Friday, either. Dammit.
LOL!
We had a great weekend, enjoying our friends' wedding, Jeremy and Kimmi (McKinney) Smith. It was a lot of fun. There were so many pranks pulled, we weren't sure if we were safe, or not!
Turns out their beautiful wedding cake (7 tiers and a fountain) was tipped over, table and all, and spilled all over the floor. We found out later, it was a fake, and his dad, who owned a bakery, and had made the cake himself, had always wanted to destroy a cake. They later came out with tons of sheet cakes for everyone. We also found out that his dad had "tainted" his portion of the cake with jabanero sauce!
It really made for an interesting time. There were many laughs shared, everyone enjoyed the photo booth, and there will be pictures for life with some of us in a black afro and huge sunglasses...!
We missed out on my Uncle Chris's funeral, though, and although it was nice to miss out on all the family crying, it was very hard for me. Uncle Chris was quite a guy, and I really miss him!
My Dad and Shelby wrote the poem below in his honor, as is customary for my Dad. This is copyrighted Roy Leibbrandt ©, 2012.

My Brother Chris
Where to begin about my big brother?
Separated for years until we found each other.
Oh, yes; we have a different last name,
But our blood is 100% the same.
As kids we have seen more than one can comprehend,
So why did our God choose for his life to end?
I think Chris's life and actions were never boring,
But God knows you could hardly stand his snoring.
His job here was to watch over us all,
The earthly family he guarded was anything but small.
Through two orphanages and too much foster care;
He always had a portion of love to share.
Chris once told me to look at the wind in the trees;
How the big branches protect the little ones from the breeze.
And so he lived his life at a very fast pace,
As the years took a toll on his handsome face.
He never backed down from anything, no matter what;
Truck driver or bouncer, he could kick your butt.
Material things are what people are after -
Not Chris; just hugs, kisses and a lot of laughter.
I know Heaven is lucky to receive my brother,
Because he, you see, was like no other.
Oh yes, we will miss him with all our heart,
But he's watching us, so are we really apart?
Please God, put your hand on my brother's shoulder
And remember there is no one bigger or bolder.
We love and miss you, my big brother Chris
